TEXAS HOUSE DEMOCRATS RESPOND TO SUPREME COURT / GOP HUNGER CRISIS

Last evening, the Trump Administration once again stopped SNAP benefits from reaching the millions of Americans who depend on them.

**AUSTIN, TEXAS **— On November 6, 2025, a federal judge in Rhode Island ordered the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide full November SNAP benefits to about 42 million recipients, criticizing partial payments as causing further delays, confusion, and harm. Following the Trump Administration's appeal, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, acting for the Supreme Court of the United States, issued a temporary administrative stay of the full-payment order pending resolution by the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

**HDC Committee on the Texas Hunger Crisis Co-Chair Armando Walle: **“Friday afternoon millions of Americans saw a glimpse of hope knowing they would soon receive their full SNAP benefits until President Trump yet again blocked our neighbors from feeding their families. I’ve seen first hand that our food banks and churches are running low on supplies; the need has never been higher. Texans can’t wait any longer. We need swift action from the lower courts.”

HDC Committee on the Texas Hunger Crisis Co-Chair Toni Rose: “Right now, mothers are going without so their children can eat, and our seniors are being forced to choose between medication and meals. Families in crisis are experiencing whiplash—one day benefits are coming, the next they’re blocked. It shouldn’t require a court order to make sure Americans don’t go hungry.”

Texas House Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Mihaela Plesa: “Parents are doing everything they can to keep their kids fed and just when help was finally coming, Donald Trump blocked it. No child should pay the price for political games. Feeding families is the bare minimum of governing. Republicans failed the test."
