AUSTIN, TEXAS — In response to the release of the biennial revenue estimate by Comptroller Glenn Hegar, Texas House Democratic Caucus Chair Gene Wu issued the following statement:
“Our state has the resources needed to make meaningful investments in Texans, but for over 30 years, Republican leadership has sold out our interests in favor of protecting wealthy donors and corporate insiders. In the 2025 legislative session, Democrats will make it clear: we are ready to put the State of Texas to work for Texans — and Republicans will continue to work to shortchange our communities in favor of special interests.
“A stable revenue outlook, with forecasted available funds of $194.6 billion, shows that Texas has the cash needed to fully fund neighborhood schools, provide Texans with the healthcare they deserve, help public college students graduate without crippling debt, and strengthen essential infrastructure — including fixing our unreliable power grid and securing our water resources. Republicans must join Democrats in our commitment to invest in Texans and strengthen our communities.
“While these revenue projections echo 2023’s ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ cash balance, this time we must deliver different results. We cannot afford another session where Republicans sell out to voucher scammers while our neighborhood schools struggle. We cannot accept another missed opportunity to invest in Texas families.
“Texas is swelling with opportunity, and Democrats are ready to put our state’s considerable resources to work for all Texans. This $194.6 billion revenue forecast gives us the means to make that happen. Now we need the political will to invest in our future, protect our freedoms, and put power back in the hands of regular Texans."
