AUSTIN, TEXAS — The Texas House Democratic Caucus condemns the bigoted and hateful attacks of former Rep. Jonathan Stickland toward Rep. Salman Bhojani. These deplorable statements, coming from a man who has demeaned the Texas House of Representatives by meeting and taking counsel from infamous white supremacist and self-proclaimed neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes, echo chapters of history that Texans have fought and died to overcome. We will not go back, and we will not be cowed.
“This week, Representative Bhojani placed his hand on the Qur'an and swore to serve all Texans — just as generations before him have sworn on Bibles, Torahs, and Constitutions,” said House Democratic Caucus Chair Gene Wu. "While former Representative Stickland chases ghosts of a shameful past, we stand shoulder to shoulder with Representative Bhojani to build the Texas our children deserve. I call on Governor Abbott and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick to either condemn this act of hate or explain to the Muslim-American communities they serve why they will not.”
