AUSTIN, TEXAS — Texas House Democratic Chair Rep. Gene Wu issued the following statement amid reports of civil rights violations at immigration raids in Texas and across the nation:
"Greg Abbott and Donald Trump are dead-set on dismantling Texas communities, and they'll trample the Constitution if it's in their way. The chaos Texans are learning of now: warrantless searches, detained veterans, and community members expected to be shipped to Guantanamo Bay; is wrought by the Republican party alone," said Chair Wu.
"Our Texas Constitution and U.S. Constitution afford civil rights to all within our borders — immigrant or natural-born, documented or undocumented. Texas Democrats will continue to hold Greg Abbott accountable for his chaos, defend law and order, and ensure every Texan's rights and freedoms are secured."
