AUSTIN, TEXAS — Today, Texas House Minority Leader Rep. Gene Wu will introduce an amendment to H.B. 4, 89(2), the rigged congressional redistricting bill, that would block Trump's discriminatory redistricting scheme until the complete release of the Epstein files. The amendment creates a direct choice for Republicans: pass the racist maps Trump desperately wants, but force him to release the Epstein files that include evidence of his own involvement with a notorious child sex trafficker, or continue helping Trump silence Epstein's victims and hide the truth from the American people.
“Trump is in those files, and that's why he's fighting to keep them hidden,” said Texas House of Representatives Minority Leader Gene Wu. “At the same time he's demanding Abbott ram through racist maps, he's making sure Congressional Republicans block the release of files that could expose his decades-long relationship with a child sex trafficker. This amendment forces Republicans to choose between their loyalty to Trump and their obligation to expose sexual predators.”
REP. WU WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR COMMENT AT A PRESS CONFERENCE AFTER TODAY’S FLOOR SESSION. ADVISORY TK.
Recent reporting has confirmed Trump's extensive ties to Epstein, including numerous social events, flights on Epstein's private jet, and Trump's own admission that Epstein liked women "on the younger side." Trump has repeatedly lied about the extent of his relationship with Epstein, hung up on reporters who question him about it, and pressured his allies in Congress to block the release of documents.
"Every Republican who votes against this amendment is telling us they'd rather protect Trump than expose the truth about his connection to a child sex trafficking ring," Minority Leader Wu continued. "We all know Trump is desperately afraid of what's in those documents, and now we'll see if Texas Republicans are willing to demand transparency or if they'll continue the coverup."
The amendment uses the same "trigger law" mechanism that Republicans embraced to ban abortion in Texas, applying it instead to expose the powerful men like Trump who have escaped accountability while their victims continue to suffer.
