(TEXAS) – Today, the Texas House Democratic Caucus announced the formation of the Pandemic Response Committee to ensure the state House passes meaningful legislation that provides COVID-19 relief and recovery this Session. This group will operate under the Caucus’ existing Steering and Policy Committee.
Rep. Eddie Lucio III (D-Brownsville), the chair of the HDC’s Pandemic Response Subcommittee, issued the following statement:
“I am honored to be leading the HDC’s Pandemic Response Committee this Session. My colleagues and I are dedicated to providing solutions to every Texan who has been impacted by COVID-19. Together, we will increase equitable access to health care, protect our frontline workers, help small businesses recover and improve our state public health systems so nothing like this ever happens in our state again.”
Rep. Toni Rose (D-Dallas), Texas HDC vice-chair and chair of the HDC’s Steering and Policy Committee, added the following:
“This week marks one year since the original COVID-19 Disaster Declaration in Texas. I know this committee will fight hard for life-saving legislation that will finally end this crisis in our state, and help all Texans recover from the impacts the last 365 days have had on our lives.”
In addition to Rep. Lucio III, the following HDC Members will serve on the HDC Pandemic Response Committee: Rep. Rhetta Bowers (D-Garland), Rep. Terry Canales (D-Edinburg), Rep. Chaired by Rep. Chris Turner (D – Grand Prairie), the Caucus is focused on fighting for real solutions for all Texans.
