STATEMENT: Texas House Democrats Score Key Victory as Legislature Adjourns Sine Die

(Washington, D.C./TEXAS) – Today, the Texas Legislature adjourned Sine Die. Texas House Democrats successfully denied Republicans the quorum they needed to pass their anti-voter bills — alongside legislation that would undermine access to reproductive health care, censor our educators and attack transgender youth.

Texas House Democratic Caucus Chair Chris Turner (D-Grand Prairie), Mexican American Legislative Caucus Chair Rafael Anchía (D-Dallas), Texas Legislative Black Caucus Chair Nicole Collier (D-Fort Worth) and Texas Legislative Study Group Chair Garnet Coleman (D-Houston) released the following joint statement in response:

Today, we have secured a key victory for all Texas voters with the ending of this special session. Texas House Democrats stood united with elected officials across the nation, faith-based leaders, grassroots activists, and thousands of individuals to stop Republicans’ attacks on our democracy.

“Our resolve has resulted in renewed focus and clear action on Capitol Hill to accelerate necessary voter protection legislation — and we will continue to fight for the freedom to vote.”
